Cartheca

The workshop

JankyJoes.

A workshop for making janky decks good. Cartheca is one of the things it makes.

The JankyJoes mark: a hammer striking a card, throwing sparks.

The name

From Average Joes. The Joes part is the point: this is not a workshop for the people already winning tournaments, and nothing here assumes you arrived with a tuned list and a budget.

The janky part is the other half. A janky deck is one built around a card nobody rates, or a line that should not work, or a commander picked because it is funny rather than because it is good. Most tools treat those decks as mistakes to be corrected toward a known-good list. We think they are the interesting ones, and that the job is making them good — not making them normal.

That belief is why Cartheca works the way it does. An illegal or unconventional deck gets a warning and the exact cards the warning is about, then gets left alone. Card packages have no legality rules at all. Nothing in the product nudges you toward a consensus list, because the consensus list is not what you came to build.

Who is in it

Right now, one person. The plural in the name is intent rather than padding, and this page will say so until it stops being true.

The aim is a group — people who build the kind of decks the workshop is named for, and who want to make the tools and the show that go with them. If that sounds like you, say hello.

What it makes

Cartheca

A card archive and deckbuilding workshop: catalogue, decks, collection, playtesting with a Streamer View, and an assistant connection that can read your whole library rather than one deck at a time. It is free, and it is what most of this site is.

Why it exists is its own page.

The JankyJoes Workshop Podcast

A show about building decks that should not work and then making them work. It is not up yet; when it is, it will be linked from here.

Getting in touch

Contact reaches the workshop directly. A bug report is read by whoever would have to fix it, and there is no support desk in between.
